Aruba is a small island — about 32 km end to end and 10 km across at its widest — so one eSIM keeps you online wherever you stay. Install it at home and switch it on when you land in Oranjestad. AirOva sells Aruba plans with a fixed amount of data, from $13.49, on Digicel; each plan card shows whether it is listed as 4G or 5G.
Aruba plans are GB plans only, with no unlimited option and no calls, so pick a size with some headroom: 3–5 GB usually covers a week of maps, messaging, restaurant searches and photos, more if you stream or work online. Free Wi-Fi in hotel public areas, at the airport and in malls, bars and restaurants takes some of the load. There is no local phone number, so call over WhatsApp or FaceTime. Not sure? See how much data you need.
Aruba has two mobile operators, Setar and Digicel, both running 2G, 3G and 4G. Our plans run on Digicel; Digicel’s 4G LTE uses 1800 MHz (Band 3), the island’s main LTE band, and 2100 MHz (Band 1). Arikok National Park covers about a fifth of the island on the wild east coast, away from most resorts, and is explored by jeep or on foot; download offline maps before you go.
Flights land at Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) in Oranjestad. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the plan is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge. Validity starts on the first connection in Aruba, and the airport has free Wi-Fi if you need to finish setup. Flying on to the US? AUA has US border preclearance, so allow time for it before departure.
Aruba’s tourism board warns that without an international plan, home-SIM calls can cost a few dollars a minute and background data adds up fast. Aruba belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands but not to the EU, so EU roam-like-at-home rules do not apply and Dutch and other EU SIMs pay roaming rates. Keep data roaming off on your home SIM.
Tip: Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, keep your home SIM in for bank codes with its data roaming off, and download an offline map of the island before you fly — all 32 km of Aruba fit in one small download, handy for drives through Arikok.
No SIM shops, no roaming bills.
