Install a travel eSIM at home and switch it on when you land in Cambodia. AirOva sells Cambodia plans from $1.49, with a fixed amount of data or unlimited, all data only, with no call minutes, SMS or local phone number. GB plans run on Metfone and Cellcard, and unlimited plans on Cellcard; each plan card lists its network and whether it is listed as 4G or 5G.
GB plans suit a temple circuit or a short city break, since maps, messaging and ride-hailing apps take little data. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit; you only choose the number of days, which suits long trips, video calls and remote work. Only plans listed as 5G on their plan card can use Cellcard's new 5G in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
Cambodia has three big mobile operators: Cellcard, Metfone and Smart. Our plans run on Metfone and Cellcard; Smart is not on our plans. Cellcard belongs to CamGSM, a Cambodian-owned company founded in 1996, and Metfone is the Cambodian affiliate of Vietnam's Viettel Group. Commercial 5G is new in Cambodia: Cellcard has launched it in Phnom Penh, Takhmao and Siem Reap, and says its 5G reaches about half of Phnom Penh's population and Techo International Airport.
Techo International (KTI) replaced Phnom Penh International as the capital's main airport in September 2025 and lies about 24 km south of the city centre. Siem Reap–Angkor International (SAI), opened in October 2023, is about 50 km east of Siem Reap. Cambodia's free e-Arrival card can be completed online up to seven days before you land. After landing, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the plan is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge.
Angkor's main temples spread over an area about 24 km from east to west, and Siem Reap–Angkor International is about 40 km east of Angkor Wat. On the coast, Koh Rong lies about 25 km off Sihanoukville and is reached only by sea. We could not verify signal at individual temples, beaches or islands, so save offline maps first.
Tip: combining Cambodia with Thailand, Vietnam or Laos? Check which countries each plan covers, see our guide to one eSIM for Southeast Asia, and install any second plan over Wi-Fi before you travel on. Keep your home SIM in for bank codes, with its roaming off.
