Staying connected in the Cayman Islands

The simplest way to get online in the Cayman Islands is to install a travel eSIM before you fly and switch it on when you land on Grand Cayman. AirOva sells Cayman Islands plans from $8.99, with a fixed amount of data or unlimited, all data only, with no call minutes, SMS or local number. Plans run on Flow, with 4G and 5G where available.

Which Cayman Islands plan to choose

GB plans suit most trips, since messaging, maps and booking apps take little data. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit; you only choose the number of days, which suits longer stays, remote work and video calls home. Not sure? See how much data you need.

Flow, Cable & Wireless and Lime

A plan card that lists the network as Cable & Wireless or Lime rather than Flow means the same network: Cable & Wireless Communications ran it as LIME Cayman, which launched the islands' first LTE network in December 2013, and the Flow brand replaced LIME from July 2015. Liberty Latin America acquired Cable & Wireless in 2016. Flow launched 5G in the Cayman Islands on 4 June 2024. Digicel, the other mobile operator, is not on our plans.

Arriving on Grand Cayman

Owen Roberts International (GCM) in George Town is the main international airport. Charles Kirkconnell International (CYB) serves Cayman Brac and Edward Bodden Airfield (LYB) serves Little Cayman. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the data is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge.

Arriving by cruise ship

Cruise ships anchor in George Town Harbour and bring passengers ashore by tender. Switch the eSIM on once you are near the harbour, and turn data off again before the ship sails: at sea, phones join the ship's maritime network, which travel plans do not cover. Seven Mile Beach, the island's most popular tourist area, lies between George Town and West Bay.

Tip: keep roaming off on your home SIM but leave the SIM in for bank codes. Download an offline map of Grand Cayman before you land, and if you are heading on to Cayman Brac or Little Cayman, download the maps and bookings you need while you are still on Grand Cayman.

Cayman Islands eSIM FAQ

Which network will my Cayman Islands eSIM use?
Plans run on Flow, with 4G and 5G where available. A plan card that lists the network as Cable & Wireless or Lime means Flow: these are earlier names of the same business. The Cayman unit was called LIME Cayman when it launched its first LTE network in 2013, and the Flow brand replaced LIME from July 2015. Digicel, the other mobile operator in the Cayman Islands, is not on our plans. Check compatibility →
Is there 5G in the Cayman Islands?
Yes, on Flow, which launched 5G services in the Cayman Islands on 4 June 2024. Your phone uses 5G where it is available and your device supports it, and 4G elsewhere. Install guide → · QR code not working? 9 fixes
Is the unlimited Cayman Islands plan really unlimited?
Yes. Our unlimited Cayman Islands plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit; you only choose the number of days. They are data only, with no calls, SMS or local number. Cayman Islands plans start from $8.99.
Will the eSIM work on my cruise ship?
Only once you are in range of the land network. Cruise ships anchor off George Town and bring passengers ashore by tender, so switch the eSIM on when you reach the harbour. At sea, phones join the ship's maritime network, which travel eSIM plans do not cover.
Will my phone work with a Cayman Islands eSIM?
Most phones from 2018+ support eSIM (iPhone XS+, Pixel 3+, Galaxy S20+) and must be carrier-unlocked. Check our compatibility page before buying.
How do I get my Cayman Islands eSIM?
Instantly. After payment a QR code appears on screen and is emailed to you. Scan it in your phone settings — you can install before you fly.
When does the plan start in Cayman Islands?
Validity begins when the eSIM first connects to a network in Cayman Islands, so you can install it in advance and it won't start counting until you arrive.
Can I keep my phone number?
Yes. Your home SIM stays active for calls and texts; the Cayman Islands eSIM is used only for data.
Does it support hotspot / tethering?
It depends on the plan and the local network: many plans allow it, but some local operators limit or block tethering, so we can't guarantee it on every plan. If you need hotspot, message support before you buy and we'll check your destination.
Which mobile networks does the Cayman Islands eSIM use?
Plans connect to Flow (5G). Your phone picks an available network automatically; 4G/5G depends on local coverage.
Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Cayman Islands?
Yes. Unlimited plans for Cayman Islands have no data cap and no fair-usage limit: you only choose the number of days (1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 30), from $31.99. They are in the “Unlimited” tab above.
