The simplest way to get online in Liberia is to install a travel eSIM before you fly and switch it on when you land at Roberts International. AirOva sells Liberia plans from $6.99, with a fixed amount of data or unlimited, all data only, with no call minutes, SMS or local number. GB plans run on Orange and unlimited plans on Orange; each plan card shows whether it is listed as 4G or 5G.
GB plans suit most trips, since messaging, maps and ride or booking apps take little data. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit; you only choose the number of days, which suits longer work trips, video calls home and sharing photos. For neighbouring countries, see our West Africa eSIM guide.
A plan card may list the network as Cellcom. That name is no longer in use: Cellcom Telecommunications, founded in 2003, was bought by the Orange Group in 2016 and rebranded Orange Liberia in May 2017, so both labels mean the same network. Lonestar Cell MTN, the other large operator, is not on our plans.
Roberts International (ROB) is near Harbel in Margibi County, about 56 km from Monrovia, although bookings often list it simply as Monrovia. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the data is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge. Keep roaming off on your home SIM.
Liberia borders Sierra Leone to the northwest, Guinea to the north and Côte d'Ivoire to the east. A Liberia plan covers Liberia only unless its plan card says otherwise, so if you travel on overland, buy a plan for the next country in advance and install it over Wi-Fi while you are still in Monrovia.
Tip: download offline maps before you leave Monrovia and before trips upcountry, and send large uploads over hotel Wi-Fi. Carry a power bank, and keep your home SIM in for bank codes with its roaming off.
No SIM shops, no roaming bills.
Pick a Liberia plan and pay in under 2 minutes.
Your eSIM appears instantly and lands in your inbox. Install before you fly.
