Staying connected in Morocco

A trip to Morocco often links Casablanca, Marrakesh and the north around Tangier. Install a travel eSIM at home and switch it on when you land or step off the ferry. Which Morocco plan to choose

Maroc Telecom, Orange and Inwi

Morocco has three national operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and Inwi, and each runs mobile, fixed-line and broadband services. AirOva plans run on Orange, Inwi and Maroc Telecom, and each plan card lists its network. 5G is recent: the three operators began offering it on 7 November 2025, after licences were allocated earlier that year, so outside the big cities expect 4G.

Arriving in Casablanca or Marrakesh

Mohammed V International (CMN), which serves Casablanca, is the busiest airport in Morocco, and Marrakesh Menara (RAK) is the main gateway for Marrakesh. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the data is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge. Keep roaming off on your home SIM.

Crossing by ferry from Spain

Many travellers reach Morocco across the Strait of Gibraltar. Ferries between Tarifa and Tangier run year-round, with up to 17 crossings a day, and the trip usually takes about an hour. The Tanger Med port lies opposite Tarifa, about 14 km from the Spanish coast and 40 to 45 km east of Tangier. Set the eSIM as your data line before you board, then switch it on once you reach the Moroccan side.

Tip: download offline maps of the medinas and of any desert or mountain route before you set off, since coverage away from towns is not guaranteed. Carry a power bank, and keep your home SIM in the phone for bank codes with its roaming off.
