Mobilis, the only mobile network

Mobilis is the mobile network of OPT-NC, the public post and telecoms operator of New Caledonia, and OPT-NC is the territory's only mobile network operator. That makes the choice simple: your eSIM uses the same network as every local phone, and you call home over WhatsApp, FaceTime or other apps, since the plans have no local number.

Arriving at La Tontouta

La Tontouta International (NOU) is about 37 km northwest of Nouméa. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the data is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge. Keep roaming off on your home SIM, so it does not pick up roaming charges.

The Loyalty Islands and beyond Nouméa

The Loyalty Islands include Lifou, Maré, Tiga and Ouvéa, and Air Oceania flies to all four. For domestic flights, check which Nouméa airport your ticket names. We found no public coverage map for the islands, so treat remote beaches and smaller islets as places where signal may drop.

Tip: download offline maps, flight bookings and your accommodation details while you are in Nouméa. Carry a power bank for long days on the lagoon, and keep your home SIM in for bank codes with its roaming off.
