Staying connected in Norway

Which Norway plan to choose
GB plans suit most trips, since maps, messaging and ferry or train tickets take little data. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit, priced by the number of days. The data + calls option adds call minutes to mobile data. GB and unlimited plans are data only, and no plan includes a local phone number.
Telenor, Telia and coverage
Norway has three mobile networks: Telenor, Telia and Ice. AirOva Norway plans run on Telia and Telenor; Ice is not on our plans. According to Nkom, the Norwegian communications regulator, 99.7% of households had basic 5G coverage at the end of 2024, and 4G or 5G covered about 84.5% of Norway's area, coastal waters included. Expect weaker signal where few people live.
Arriving in Oslo, Bergen or Tromsø
Oslo Airport (OSL) lies about 35 km north-northeast of the city, linked to Oslo Central Station by the Flytoget airport train. Bergen Airport, Flesland (BGO) is Norway's second-busiest, and Tromsø has its own airport (TOS). After landing, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the plan is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge. Lofoten and the Arctic north
Lofoten has two small airports, Svolvær (SVJ) and Leknes (LKN), with flights from Bodø (BOO), and since 2007 a road has linked the islands to Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes (EVE). Coverage is thinner in the far north: Nkom ranks Finnmark, the least populous county, last, with about a quarter of its area covered at 30 Mbit/s. Tip: download offline maps before long drives and ferry days. In winter, keep your phone in an inside pocket: Apple says very cold conditions can temporarily shorten battery life or switch an iPhone off. Carry a power bank, and keep your home SIM in for bank codes, with roaming off unless it is from the EU or EEA.
