Staying connected in Saint-Martin
The simplest way to get online in Saint-Martin is to install a travel eSIM before you fly and switch it on when you land. Orange, Digicel and the other operators
Several operators serve the French side, including Orange, Digicel, Dauphin Telecom, Free Caraïbe and UTS Caraïbe; our plans run on Orange and Digicel. In 2025 measurements by the French regulator Arcep, Orange was the only operator with a 5G network on the island. Near the border, a phone can latch onto the strongest antenna even if it belongs to a network your plan does not use, so if data drops, pick the network from your plan card manually.
Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten
The island is split in two: the north is the French Collectivity of Saint-Martin, with Marigot as its capital, and the southern part is Sint Maarten, a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Arriving by air
Most international visitors land at Princess Juliana International (SXM) on the Dutch side. Grand Case-Espérance (SFG), the smaller airport on the French side, has flights to Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Barthélemy. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you fly. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the data is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge.
Tip: if you land at SXM, keep in mind that you start on the Dutch side, so check which countries your plan card lists before you leave the airport. Keep roaming off on your home SIM, and save an offline map of the whole island for the drive to Marigot or Grand Case.
