Staying connected in Serbia

Serbia's main gateway is Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, the country's largest and busiest; the second busiest serves Niš. Install a travel eSIM at home and switch it on when you land. AirOva sells Serbia plans from $1.49: fixed GB, unlimited data and a data + calls option, on A1 Serbia and Yettel.

Which Serbia plan to choose

GB plans suit most city breaks and road trips, since maps, messaging and booking apps take little data. Each plan card shows whether it is listed as 4G or 5G; on a 5G plan, expect 4G, with 5G where available. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit, priced by the number of days, and the data + calls option adds call minutes. GB and unlimited plans are data only, and no plan includes a local phone number.

EU SIMs and Roam Like at Home

Serbia is outside the EU's Roam Like at Home area, which covers the EU, the EEA, Moldova and Ukraine, so an EU SIM pays its operator's roaming rates here. The EU has opened talks to bring Serbia and five other Western Balkan countries in, but nothing changes until each agreement is finalised. Until then, keep your home SIM's data roaming off.

A1, Yettel and mts

Serbia has three mobile networks: mts, run by Telekom Srbija and the largest; Yettel, the former Telenor Serbia; and A1, which traded as Vip mobile until April 2021. Our plans run on A1 Serbia and Yettel, and a plan card that says VIP means A1 Serbia; mts is not on our plans. Commercial 5G began in December 2025, after the regulator RATEL auctioned the spectrum in November, and at launch Yettel said its 5G reached all major cities and popular tourist areas.

Arriving in Belgrade or Niš

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG) lies 18 km west of downtown Belgrade, near Surčin, and Niš Constantine the Great Airport (INI) 4 km northwest of central Niš. After landing, switch on the eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the plan is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge.

Tip: near the borders, your phone can join a neighbouring country's network: Serbia's regulator RATEL notes that a signal can reach about 15 km across a border.
