In Tajikistan the signal follows the towns: Dushanbe, Khujand and the larger centres have 4G, while the Pamirs and the Fann Mountains are largely offline. Install a travel eSIM at home and switch it on when you land in Dushanbe. AirOva sells Tajikistan plans from $2.99, with fixed GB or unlimited data, on ZET Mobile and MegaFon, on 4G or with 5G where available — each plan card lists its network.
GB plans suit most trips, and especially the Pamir Highway, where many days pass with little or no signal to use. Unlimited plans give unlimited data with no data cap and no fair-usage limit, priced by the number of days — for longer stays or remote work in Dushanbe. Plans are data-only, with no local phone number.
AirOva plans run on ZET Mobile and MegaFon. ZET Mobile is the former Beeline Tajikistan, and a plan card that says TT Mobile means MegaFon Tajikistan, under its company name; it is the same network. The largest operator is Tcell. 4G is reliable in Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulob and other major towns. On the Pamir Highway, signal is good in Khorog, slow in Murghab and sporadic or absent between them, with long gaps such as Murghab to Alichur. Iskanderkul and the Fann Mountains have no mobile coverage.
The main gateway is Dushanbe International Airport (DYU); Khujand (LBD) in the north also has international flights. Wi-Fi on arrival is limited, so install the eSIM before you fly. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for that line; the plan is prepaid, so roaming adds no charge. Validity starts on the first connection in Tajikistan.
Most homestays along the route have no Wi-Fi, and ATMs are rare or out of order beyond Khorog, so download offline maps of the whole route, save your driver’s number and bookings offline and bring enough cash before you leave Dushanbe or Khorog. Don’t rely on your phone alone for navigation or emergencies. Our Central Asia eSIM guide covers combining Tajikistan with its neighbours.
Tip: Tell people at home when you will be out of range on the highway, and expect the eSIM to reconnect as you reach Khorog or Murghab. Keep your home SIM in for bank codes, with data roaming off.
